About
Albany Mainstreet Playhouse

Community Theater in Albany, TX

Albany Mainstreet Playhouse (AMP) was founded in 1999.  The first play performed was “Barefoot in the Park”, directed by Lorna Ayers and produced by Robert Echols.  This partnership continued producing plays that were performed in different theatric venues in Albany and hosted guest directors Reilly Nail and Jennifer Boudreau.  Since its inception, AMP has produced over 40 plays and musicals, entertaining audiences that travel from all over Texas to see talent that rivals “big city” theater.

One of AMP’s most popular productions was “Always…Patsy Cline” that played to sold out audiences at Albany’s historic Aztec Theatre.  The popularity of the show sent the production “on the road” and cast and crew toured for 3 years in venues over the state of Texas.  After a few year’s rest, the show was revived with the original cast and played to packed houses at home in Albany at the Aztec Theatre before closing for good in 2018.
